Music Intent Statement
Music is a universal language: it can inspire us in our thinking and allows us to express and reflect on our thoughts and emotions in a unique way.
Our aim at Wootton Primary School is to immerse children in a musical journey where they will participate in a range of musical experiences that will engage and inspire them. Through the key areas of listening, composing and performing, children will build their self-confidence and develop their sense of creativity, independence, perseverance and achievements. They will explore instruments and create sounds which will progress into composing and improvising their own pieces.
By having opportunities for audience appreciation, performing in front of others will further build confidence and allow for the evaluation and appraising of both their own and others’ work. We aim to teach the importance of understanding the historical and cultural aspects of music and how it has influenced us by listening to and learning about composers and musicians from different cultures and eras.
To further encourage an all-encompassing music experience, all children will have the opportunity to learn an instrument through a specialised NMPAT teaching programme as well as being offered instrument and singing lessons.
