Our School

We are very pleased to be able to welcome you to our school website. We hope you get a real sense of the pride and enjoyment that our superb staff and fantastic children have when they are a part of our very special school.

Wootton Primary School has been at the heart of the local community since 1872 when the village first received a grant to help educate the local children.

Over 150 years later, our school has evolved yet we continue to play a full and active role in the life of the village, working alongside local community groups, helping children develop their sense of self as members of their local community. We recognise that our children’s emotional wellbeing and mental health is crucial to their future success and happiness so we have both a family support worker and a school counsellor on hand to support our community to overcome barriers, provide early help to families most in need and deliver specialist interventions to support the well-being of our children.

Relationships with parents are highly valued as we believe children thrive when school and home work together in partnership.

We believe it is crucial that children develop their sense of self, their sense of others, and their sense of the world during primary school.  They need to be curious, creative and courageous and use challenges to thrive and become the best versions of themselves. We prioritise values, putting Respect at the core, alongside our ethos of Be the Best You Can Be

At Wootton, children develop a wide range of skills beyond the academic: they are given a vast array of opportunities, including sport, dance, music and drama.

We have excellent facilities on site including: a large hall, music studio, library and other areas to enhance learning opportunities.

We are set in grounds which have evolved over the last 150 years. We now benefit from carefully developed spaces that support healthy child development through active play, learning and exploration. We believe that the outside environment is as important as the classrooms themselves to help children learn.

Our OFSTED inspection (October 2014) assessed our school as a good school and the short inspection by Ofsted in November 2018, confirms that we ‘continue to be good’. For more information on our recent inspection, please see our ‘legal information’ page.

The school converted to an academy in October 2012.

All who work at Wootton Primary School aim to achieve a happy, friendly and caring environment where all children are valued equally and their achievements are celebrated.

Simply put, we all want to be the best we can be!
