Science Intent Statement

Science is key to understanding the world we live in and vital in the world’s future prosperity. We aim for all pupils to develop a continued passion for science that will prepare them for secondary school and to know more, and understand more, about the wider world. Furthermore, we strive to develop a sense of curiosity and excitement in our pupils about the wonderful world around them.

At Wootton Primary school, our progressive science curriculum enables all of our children to explore and investigate problems in an environment that encourages them to question, analyse and think past their initial understanding. Through exciting experiments, our pupils will become lifelong learners by testing predictions, making observations and collecting data whilst also developing their understanding of variables and the impact they can have on outcomes.

We ensure our children have hands-on engaging experiences in which they learn, through practise and investigation, applying scientific vocabulary and reasoning to their explanations and analysis. We teach our children about wonderful scientists – past and present – that have informed our understanding of Earth and beyond along with how they have helped to shape the world we live in today.

“We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology.” – Katherine Johnson
